A Note From My Kitchen
I have been having a lot of fun lately coming up with recipes that involve crescent rolls and pizza. There are a few reasons why I've been combining the two so often lately.
First, crescent rolls are always on sale at my local grocery store. I like to grab a few cans each time I see them on sale to use in their traditional form and to use in fun, creative recipes like this one.
The second reason is because my kids love pizza. Like, love love. They want me to pizza-fy all the things and crescent rolls and pizza just so happen to be a match made in heaven. They also love Pizza Sliders. Totally a winner recipe, too!
I know you'll love how quick and easy it is to make this family friendly recipe. Enjoy!
Happy cooking,
Ingredient Notes
- Refrigerated crescent roll dough: Use a standard 8-ounce can. Use the triangle-style dough, not a dough sheet.
- Mozzarella string cheese: Whole string cheese sticks are easy to cut in half and make measuring a breeze. You can substitute with shredded mozzarella if that's what you have on hand.
- Pepperoni: Use whatever sliced pepperoni you like best.
- Butter: Melt the butter before brushing it on the dough. Salted or unsalted butter both work.
- Garlic salt: Use a light sprinkle so the tops do not become overly salty. If needed, garlic powder plus a small pinch of salt can be used instead.
- Parmesan cheese: Finely grated parmesan is the best option for sprinkling over the rolls before baking.
- Marinara sauce: Use whatever marinara you love!
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I make pizza crescent rolls with string cheese?
Yes. This recipe is written for mozzarella string cheese cut in half, so each crescent roll gets one piece that fits neatly inside the dough. Why does the cheese melt out of pizza crescent rolls?
Some of the cheese will melt out of the crescent rolls. Don't worry, though. They are still deliciously cheesy with some of the cheese on the outside instead of the inside! Can I assemble pizza crescent rolls ahead of time?
Yes, but they are best baked soon after assembling so the dough stays cold and easy to handle. If you need a short head start, assemble them on the parchment-lined baking sheet and refrigerate before baking.
