Two Bite Tested

This snack is popular because:
  • It uses one ingredient and minimal prep.
  • The oven-baked method cooks quickly at 400 degrees F.
  • The slices turn browned and crisp as the oil bakes out.

This recipe has been tested and retested in my own kitchen to make sure it works consistently and includes ingredient notes, answers to frequently asked questions, serving and storage suggestions, a detailed recipe card, and nutritional information.

A Note From My Kitchen

This pepperoni chips recipe is actually more of a method than a recipe. The only ingredient you need to make pepperoni chips is pepperoni!

That means there's no reason not to make this tasty low carb snack. When you bake sliced pepperoni, the oil bakes out of the slices leaving a golden, crispy pepperoni round. I betcha can't eat just one!

Ingredients

  • Thin-sliced deli pepperoni: This method of making pepperoni chips works best with thin-sliced deli pepperoni from the deli meat case, or slices cut at the deli counter.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you make pepperoni chips?

Arrange sliced pepperoni in a single layer on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet and bake at 400 degrees F, blotting grease partway through, until browned and crisp.

What kind of pepperoni should I use for pepperoni chips?

This method works best with thin-sliced deli pepperoni. Thin-sliced pepperoni is often sold pre-packaged in the deli meat case, and it can also be sliced at the deli counter.

Why are my crispy pepperoni chips not crisping up?

If the pepperoni is sliced too thick, if not enough excess grease is blotted off, or if the slices do not cook long enough, the chips may not fully crisp. The edges are usually crisper than the center.

Why are my keto pepperoni chips so salty?

Pepperoni is salty in general, and baking concentrates the saltiness as the slices crisp.
  • Choose a brand with a lower sodium label if available.
  • Use the thinnest slices for a lighter bite.
  • Let the chips cool fully so the texture finishes crisping.
  • Serve with an unsalted dip option when desired.

Are pepperoni crisps the same as pepperoni chips?

Pepperoni crisps and pepperoni chips refer to the same zero carb, gluten free baked pepperoni slices that turn brown and crisp in the oven.

Serving Suggestions

What to Serve With Pepperoni Chips

Pepperoni chips are great served as a stand-alone salty snack, a side served with sandwiches or soup, or crumbled over a salad. You can also try them with a dip like marinara or pizza sauce, pesto, or ranch dip.

Pepperoni Chips Variations

These variations change what goes into the recipe while keeping the same simple baking method.
  • Use turkey pepperoni for a different flavor and a leaner slice.
  • Use spicy pepperoni for a hotter finish.
  • Use mini pepperoni slices and begin checking for crispness a minute early.
  • Use a different brand of thin-sliced deli pepperoni to compare texture and salt level.

Got Leftovers?

What To Do With Leftover Pepperoni Chips

Try using the finished chips in one of these creative and tasty ways:
  • Crush and sprinkle over scrambled eggs for a salty, crispy protein topping.
  • Chop and fold into a cold pasta salad as a crunchy mix-in.
  • Use as a crunchy topping for baked potatoes just before serving.
  • Stir crushed chips and parmesan cheese into popcorn in a bowl for a savory snack mix.
  • Use as a crunchy topping for mac and cheese at serving time.

How To Store Pepperoni Chips

Store pepperoni chips for 1-2 days in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
