Everyone loves a classic buffalo wing! Well, maybe not everyone, but I sure do! In my opinion, there are two things that make a great buffalo wing.

Number one: the crispiness. They've got to be crispy. And they have to hold their crispiness after the sauce has been added. The crispiness is key.

Number two: the sauce. The sauce has got to be rich, spicy, not too greasy, and not too thick. It has to be juuust right.

This buffalo wing sauce recipe is the perfect combination of richness and flavor. I'll be honest, it's not so much a recipe, but more a ratio I'm talking about here. With the perfect ratio of just three simple ingredients, hot sauce, butter, and garlic powder, you'll be on your way to amazing chicken wings in no time!

This recipe is great in a pinch if you've got some hot sauce on hand, but not bottled wing sauce. I think you'll agree this recipe is way better than the bottled stuff, though!

HOW TO MAKE BUFFALO WING SAUCE

Homemade buffalo wing sauce is made by combining butter, hot sauce, and garlic powder in a pan over medium-high heat. See below for detailed recipe instructions.

WHY IS IT CALLED BUFFALO SAUCE?

Buffalo wings and their signature spicy buffalo sauce originated at the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, New York, hence the name buffalo wings!

WHAT TO USE BUFFALO WING SAUCE ON (BESIDES WINGS!)

Buffalo wing sauce is, naturally, a great accompaniment to chicken wings, but it's delicious used in other ways, too! You can use it in appetizers like Buffalo Ranch Chicken Dip, Buffalo Chicken Salad Bites, or Buffalo Ranch Chip Dip. Buffalo wing sauce is also yummy drizzled on sandwiches like these Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Sandwiches. You can even incorporate it into your veggie dishes! My Buffalo Cauliflower is SO good!

WHY DOES MY BUFFALO SAUCE KEEP SEPARATING?

If your butter keeps separating from your hot sauce, it just means that it hasn't been mixed well enough. Instead of using a spoon, try mixing your buffalo sauce with a whisk instead. Whisking the sauce will eliminate the separating.

  1. I find pre-made sauce very convenient, but I'm just concerned about preserving it.
