One of my very favorite things to grow in the Spring is fresh basil. Fresh basil is super simple to grow at home and can be used to add tons of flavor to lots of recipes!

Making pesto might be my very favorite way to use up my garden's basil bounty.

What is pesto? Pesto is a simple combination of fresh basil, parmesan cheese, garlic, and olive oil. It's all blended until it comes together into a gorgeous, bright, fresh sauce that is amazingly delicious!

This recipe requires no cooking time, just a few whirls in your food processor. It's the perfect accompaniment to pasta, meats, and vegetables!

Pecan Basil Pesto


Pecan Basil Pesto is a twist on traditional pesto that uses pecans instead of pine nuts. Use it on pasta, instead of tomato sauce on pizza, or as a condiment for fish, meat, or vegetables!

INGREDIENTS


1/2 cup pecan halves
2 cups fresh basil leaves, packed
2 cloves garlic, peeled
1/3 cup parmesan cheese, grated
2/3 cup olive oil
kosher salt


INSTRUCTIONS


1. Heat a small pan over medium-high heat. Add the pecans to the pan and toast, stirring frequently for 3 minutes. Remove to a plate to coo1.

2. In a food processor, finely chop the basil and garlic. Stop to scrape down the sides with a rubber spatula as necessary.

3. Add the parmesan cheese and pecans to the food processor and pulse until everything is chopped into small pieces.

4. With the machine on, slowly add the olive oil until incorporated. Season with salt, taste.
