Pizza Sauce

Homemade Pizza Sauce that comes together in a quick 15 minutes using just a few simple ingredients.

Homemade Pizza Sauce

When I decided to venture into the realm of homemade pizza, I thought I did everything right.  I took the time to craft my own dough, shred my own mozzarella, and I even bought a brand new pizza pan.

The one thing that I didn't do right was the sauce.  I foolishly went to the grocery store and bought the pre-made stuff.  BIG mistake.  Why it didn't dawn on me to make my own, I can't explain.  But, after one slice, I knew I wouldn't buy it again.  It was just...yucky.

I tried a few different recipes until I finally found one that tastes just right.  With just a few simple ingredients, in a quick 15 minutes you can have amazing, flavorful pizza sauce that is worthy of the effort you put in making a homemade pizza pie.  Enjoy!

Pizza Sauce

Ingredients
  • 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • ½ tsp dried marjoram
  • 1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced

Instructions
  1. Combine all of the ingredients in a sauce pan.  Bring to a boil and then reduce the heat to medium.  Simmer for 15 minutes.

Notes

For a chunky sauce, substitute the diced tomatoes with a 28-ounce can of diced tomatoes, undrained.

  1. I am going to be trying this soon. We love homemade pizza and I have been looking for a good sauce. I have tried several store-bought and my favorite of those is the good old-fashioned Chef-Boy-R-Dee. We love it because it is all savory, no sweet. The sweetness is the issue we had with others we tried. If I want something sweet, I will get a Hershey Bar. I am going to make some of your recipe and may even can a couple of jars. Thank you for the recipe!

  4. If you want a smoother sauce like you said, do you put the ingredients in the blender before or after you cook it on the stove top?
